what i'm lovin'

This week's what i'm lovin' definitely falls into the what i'm lovin' but could only have in my dreams category.  These Miu Miu beauties retail for $890 at Barneys New York.  They are so beautiful, but I can't imagine wearing something that costs that much on my feet.

Here's another pair from Nordstrom, also for $890.
The two photos below were found on pinterest.  They look so amazing on.  Pure love!

your very own "carrie" necklace

I received an email from Bauble Bar, in which they were promoting their newly arrived nameplate pendants.  For $88.00 we can all have our very own name necklace, that Carrie Bradshaw made ever so popular.  My girlfriends and I were HUGE Sex & the City fans, and will always have a little place in our hearts for the show.  It's a reminder of those nights we would all be home to watch a new episode (we lived together) or when we would watch episode after episode on DVD.
I kind of want my own Carrie necklace, to remind me of the good times with the good girlfriends.

cookie + kate

Mediterranean Stuffed Tomatoes with Quinoa
When I was on Pinterest yesterday, I came across the blog COOKIE + kate.  I found many inspiring recipes on Kate's blog and thought I'd share my finds.  Her blog is filled with the most beautiful photographed foods that Kate cooks and her dog Cookie eats the crumbs {love that!}.
Here are some I'm going to try.  If you're interested in any of the recipes, just click on the link and it'll take you there.

[On a side note, eating healthy meals/foods has been great.  I have to say, one of the best feelings is after you eat a healthy meal, your stomach and body does not feel overly full; plus all the "good" nutrition that the body is receiving is a plus].

Deal of the DAY

I was on Gilt Groupe last week and scored these House of Harlow 1960 Hexagon Drop Earrings.  I have always wanted a piece (okay... pieces) from her jewelry line, but never took action and purchased something.  The earrings retail for $70, but I got them for $36.  They are going to be greatly used for the holidays, I can't wait to wear them.
If you are interested in the earrings or any other pieces from her line, you can go to The Trend Boutique.

what i'm lovin': 178 calorie martini

Martini: "Don't Feed The Models"

Refinery 29 featured a cocktail created by Damon Dunay, the Beverage Director at New York City's The Empire Hotel.  He named the martini "Don't Feed The Models," because of it's low calorie count. {LOL}. This is a martini I wouldn't mind sipping on myself.  It sounds refreshing and delicious, and with only 178 calories would it be considered healthy?  Here's the recipe, with the calorie count of each ingredient:

Ingredients:
2 oz. Crop Organic Cucumber Vodka: 120 calories
(typically vodkas have 100 calories per shot (1.5 oz) versus the 90 in Crop)
.75 oz. Fresh Lime: 2 calories.
.75 oz. Simple Syrup: 40 calories.
.5 oz. Cucumber Juice: 4 calories.
Fresh Mint: 12 calories.

Preparation Notes:
In a mixing glass, muddle one cucumber slice and combine all ingredients; shake vigorously. Strain into a Martini glass, garnish with a cucumber slice.

The Empire Hotel Lobby Bar
As I was searching for a pic of the lobby bar, I came across this site which features all of the cocktails the hotel created for NYFW.

fall accents

Dried corn as garland
The weather is changing and the leaves will be red, orange, and gold in a few weeks.  I am going shopping with a friend today, in search of some fall [and Halloween] decor.  I already have a few ideas from this and this, but I wanted some more inspiration before I ventured out and here's what I found.  Have you started transitioning your home into Fall yet?

Ceramic pots to store fire wood and pine cones

Pine cone finials
Moss and pumpkin wreath

Lanterns on the porch filled with pumpkins

And for fun, two outfits that scream Fall.

street style

I always love to see what the fashionable ladies wear during nyfw.  I was roaming around on Harper's Bazaar and came across some beautiful, yet recreational, looks.  Here are a few that I love and feel as though us girls have most of these pieces in our closets.

I believe that most of us own a pair of jean cutoff's and white v-necks.  Maybe not the baby pink blazer, but one in another color?  Love the wide brim hat, but I don't think I could pull it off like she does.

Chambray shirt.... check.  Skinny jeans... check.  Black platforms... check.  This outfit is compromised of staples we may all own.  So effortless, yet chic at the same time.

This look is great [and also being worn by Zanna Roberts Rossi, the Sr. Fashion Editor of Marie Claire].  She paired a sparkly top with bell bottom jeans, and a great clutch.  We might not own a sparkly top as beautiful [and expensive], but I'm sure most of us have a top with some sparkles in our closets.

This would be a great outfit to wear to work.  As we all know, a collared button up in white is a staple and never goes out of style.  We might not own dress pants in blue, it looks almost chambray, but we all have pants.  The purple heals are amazing.  The pop of color is what make's this outfit.

more on eating healthy

The eating healthy and working out lifestyle is going good so far.  We've cut many {yummy} things out of our diet, ie: no soda, sugar products, anything sweet, anything fried, red meat.  I found that eating healthy can get a tad boring, so like I have said before {in this post}, I'm always searching for new recipes.
I love the site food gawker, but beware... there are MANY tempting treats and not so healthy meals on the site.  But, I did find a few and wanted to share them with you.

Grilled Eggplant
This recipe is still not so healthy, so here's how I will revise it.

1 medium (about 1 1/2 pounds) eggplant, cut lengthwise into 4 slices
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 teaspoon salt [use less salt, about a pinch]
1/4 teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper
4 ounces mozzarella cheese , shredded (1 cup) [use 1/4 cup of part skim mozzarella cheese]
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese [cut this out]
1/2 cup (loosely packed) fresh basil leaves, sliced
2 medium ripe tomatoes, each cut into 4 slices

Baked Eggs
This is a great option for breakfast, but I would change a few things and would serve whole grain toast.  Here's how:

4 strips of bacon [cut this out]
clove of garlic
handful of chopped baby spinach [I would also add more veggies like diced onions, mushrooms, bell pepper]
1/2 teaspoon butter [cut this out]
1 tablespoon cream [use low fat milk]
eggs [use egg whites only]
cherry tomatoes
crumbled goat cheese [cut this out]

Chickpea Salad
Chickpeas (aka garbanzo beans) are fantastic.  This recipe features them in a salad with a homemade vinaigrette.  I wouldn't change the salad recipe, but would tweak the vinaigrette.

For the Salad
  • 2 Hearts of Romaine lettuce
  • 2 cans chickpeas, drained
  • 1 bunch of green onions
  • 1 red pepper
  • 1 vine tomato
  • 2 tsp crushed garlic
The Vinaigrette
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 4 Tbsp Red Wine Vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp brown sugar [cut this out, add 1 teaspoon of dijon]
  • a dash of salt
  • a dash of pepper

Chipotle Turkey Burger with Nectarine Basil Salsa
This burger looks fantastic.  I would use whole grain buns and wouldn't change the recipe too much.

The Burger
  • 1 lb extra lean ground turkey
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons canned chipotles in adobo sauce (pureed) [instead of canned chipotles, Williams-Sonoma has a spice called Crushed Chipotle Chili that I have, would use this of course]
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt [cut down the salt to 1/2 teaspoon]
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
The Salsa
  • 1 ripe, juicy nectarine
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons diced red onion
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons minced jalapeno (seeds and ribs removed)
  • 1/2 teaspoon lime juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon honey [cut this out]
  • 1 teaspoon sugar (optional)
  • 4 fresh basil leaves

missoni for target

What did you buy??
I got a black and white glass candle, a coffee mug to drink my coffee in style, flats, two pairs of knee high socks {to wear with my hunter wellies}, tights, and a pair of regular socks.
Since I could never afford the expensive Missoni, at least now I am able to have a little bit of Missoni love.

eating healthy

The hubby wants to make more of an effort to eat healthy foods/meals, so I agreed {very easily}.  I was quite surprised that these words even came out of his mouth.  I've always cooked "healthy" meals by using lean meats, veggies, and whole wheat products, but in a not so strict sense.  I needed some inspiration on meals to cook and what we should be eating, so I turned to the site Eating Well.  Not only are there great recipes to try, but it's also filled with a wealth of information on nutrition, food news, etc.  We've been eating strictly healthy meals for a week now and here's some of the items I base our meals around.

Olive oil
Skinless chicken breast or {ground} turkey
Salmon or tuna
Lots {and I mean lots} of fresh veggies and fruits
Whole grains {wheat, quinoa, barley, bulgur, oats}
Brown rice
Low or nonfat yogurt
Eggs - be minimal on egg yolk itself
Low sodium products {ie: can beans, broth, if it's available in l.s. I get it}
Beans {kidney, garbanzo, black, edamame}
Fat free feta cheese or small amounts of 2% cheese

what i'm lovin' - pumpkins

I guess I'm in a Fall kick right now.  I was roaming through BH&G and they had so many ideas on how to decorate with pumpkins.  Super easy and super creative.  Here are the ideas that I loved the most, so they are what i'm lovin' and I'll be stealing some of these ideas as well!
